How works
Nextfone uses an advanced digital technology called Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP)._ VoIP is a method of converting your phone calls into data which travels through your broadband Internet connection rather than a telephone line. Specifically, it takes the analog voice signals from your telephone and turns them into digital signals._ These digital signals are sent out over the Internet and re-configured back to analog to complete your call. Once installed, Nextfone works much like the telephone service you’re using today._ Upon sign-up, we send you a Nextfone Voice Gateway (included in your service fee)._ Once you have activated your service by connecting the Nextfone Voice Gateway to your existing phone and high speed modem (or home network), you can use your phone as you normally would._ You do not speak into your computer (in fact, your computer doesn’t even have to be powered on) and there are no extra numbers for you to dial when placing a call._ Outbound calls can be placed to anyone with a phone number and incoming calls will ring as they normally do.
Nextfone operates exclusively with the touch-tone phone that is connected to the Nextfone Voice Gateway._ However, the Nextfone service can be conveniently accessed in different parts of your house if a portable phone is connected to the Nextfone Voice Gateway.
Nextfone 9-1-1 Service is available when you’re traveling within most parts of Canada._ However at home or when traveling, 9-1-1 service differences exist between Nextfone and traditional telephone service.
What do I need to use ?
To use Nextfone you simply need a high speed Internet connection and your standard touch-tone phone._ Nextfone is simple to install. It only takes a few simple steps._ 1. Plug your computer into the Nextfone Voice Gateway._ 2. Plug the Nextfone Voice Gateway into your DSL or cable modem (for a home networking set-up see the second diagram below)._ 3. Connect your telephone to the Nextfone Voice Gateway._ If you need assistance at any time during the installation, FREE technical support is available.
At Nextfone our goal is to place you in charge of your communications._ You can select your telephone number from anyone of a number of major centres across North America, regardless of where you live._ In fact, you can select additional virtual telephone numbers that allow people from those cities to call you as if you were physically there.
Here is how it works:
Add multiple phone numbers to your account
Nextfone gives you all the flexibility your lifestyle demands._ As your needs grow, we grow with you._ Nextfone allows you to add multiple phone numbers to the same account._ Now you'll be able to see all of your calls on one convenient bill.
Order as many phone numbers as you like!
Nextfone does not limit the number of phone numbers you can add to your account._ You'll need 90 Kbps of available bandwidth from your Broadband connection for each phone that's in use at the same time.
Nextfone Virtual Phone Numbers are inexpensive secondary numbers that ring to your primary Nextfone line._ Simply select a Virtual Phone Number in one of the many regions across North America that we offer -- check out the Availability Tab/listing.
For example:
Let's say that you live in Ottawa where your Nextfone primary number has area code 613._ Your mom lives in Vancouver._ Her area code is 604._ You could get a virtual phone number in area code 604 that rings to your 613 line._ Now mom doesn't have to pay long distance charges when she calls you.
And remember Nextfone also offers Virtual Numbers across North America!
Great for business too!
Imagine having business cards with New York , L.A. and Vancouver satellite office numbers. For a low-cost monthly charge, clients worldwide can call you without dialing long distance._ And you get the local presence without all the expensive overhead -- Virtual Numbers can be as inexpensive as $ 3.95 per month!
With Total Presence you can select a telephone number in the city where you live - the same way you would do with a traditional phone service.
With Virtual Presence you can live anywhere in Canada and select your Nextfone Main telephone number from one of our serving areas._ In other words, your municipal address and Nextfone Main telephone number are located in different areas._ For example: You live in Montreal but wish to have a "Virtual Presence" in Toronto._ At the start of the service sign-up process, you simply select Ontario and Toronto from the drop down menus and enter your Montreal postal code._ In this example, all calls to and from Toronto are considered local calls.
- When dialing 9-1-1 from a VirtualPresence phone you must provide your location and call-back phone number to the 9-1-1 Operator.
Note: You can still select up to ten additional Secondary Numbers from our list of cities.
